Basic Cleaning Kit
Have a few kits around your home in a basket or tool tidy, it will make life so much easier when it comes to cleaning. These products, some of them homemade, are versatile and have more than one use.
Washing Soda or Baking Soda
Baking soda makes a great all round cleaner as you can use it for practically anything and it is very effective. It is particularly useful in the kitchen and bathroom. Mix 3 parts warm water to 1 part baking soda, making a paste to clean out the oven and fridge. Add some washing up liquid to clean the bathroom. Baking soda is also a great odour eater, so put some in a dish and place in the fridge to get rid of all those nasty smells. Washing soda can be used in the same way and is tougher on stains.
White Vinegar and Lemon Juice
The mixture of these have similar uses to the above, but also great on lime scale and soap scum. To clean glass and wooden surfaces mix equal parts of white vinegar and warm water and finish off with a mix of lemon juice and water to leave a lovely fresh zesty smell. Lemon juice is a great deodoriser so put some down those smelly drains.
Rubber Gloves
A must have if you have sensitive skin. Although some people are allergic to them, so try wearing cotton gloves under the rubber gloves. Have some handy in the bathroom and a different colour for the kitchen so as not to get mixed up.
Sponges and Micro Fibre Cloths
Sponges are great where scrubbing is required and micro fibre cloths can be used for everything, wet or dry as required.
Multi Purpose Cleaner
Most cleaning jobs around the home can be done with a clean micro fibre cloth and a good multi purpose cleaner. Or to make your own get a spray bottle and fill with warm water and add a few drops of washing up liquid.
Cream Cleaner
This will get rid of all the stubborn dirt that a multi purpose clean can’t. Not good for polished surfaces though, as too abrasive.
